II Congress of Aquaculture Mediterranean * II Symposium of Aquaculture of Catalonia * the Technical Sessions of the Exporàpita

I think that has been a success to take advantage of the opportunity of the II Congress of Aquaculture in the Mediterranean to accommodate the II Symposium of Aquaculture of Catalonia.

The fact that we can count with researchers from the Reference Network on Aquaculture of the Government of Catalonia represents an added value that will allow us to have more communication, more participation of experts, more knowledge transfer and, ultimately, more level in the conclusions.

All and all we say that aquaculture has a future and this is true but also we have a long way to run given that the weak points there are.

We are currently in a global arena with many challenges; challenges that have each one of them their own fact-specific and require responses.

The process of warming of the Planet, population growth, the need for a healthy diet put us in a dichotomy that we can't dodge: we do produce in a sustainable way and we make it possible for a healthy nutrition of the population. This is not easy and aquaculture must be placed in a position optimal for the protein of the fish is healthy and necessary and we all know that the fishing production is immersed in a series of questions that will be resolved with greater sustainability, which is the same as reducing the fishing effort.

Aquaculture has to go to more but we need more research, more technology transfer and more resources. We will have to combine productivity manager with a business fair. Researchers and entrepreneurs to put it plainly.

I hope with these conferences, with the people involved and with the importance of the conclusions that will be carried out.

The Rapita is already a reference in matters of aquaculture. I offer my congratulations to the organizers and the encoratjo resilience. They are doing a good service to the Country and its people.
