Health and welfare of cultured fish

Animal health and welfare are two linked concepts. In order to preserve their welfare, healthy animals are required. Similarly, animals in poor condition will always be more prone to suffer disease. Both, health and welfare have a clear effect on production yields. Therefore, health and welfare are not only important in terms of animal ethics but profitability as well, being key factors for sustainable aquaculture.
Examples of future projects are:

a. Research on immunoprofilaxis through vaccines. Study of molecular and cellular markers and immunoedocrine response against infections are required.
b. Parasitological studies to prevent diagnose and treat these diseases.
